Pre-Holiday baking: Sacher cake – my way
The Holidays are here and so is baking season. We love to bake! Especially Matt! He makes the best chocolate cake ever! But this time I’m sharing with you my recipe for “Sacher” cake my way:)
Sacher cake or original “Sachertorte” is a chocolate cake, or torte, invented by Austrian Franz Sacher in 1832 for Prince Wenzel von Metternich in Vienna, Austria. It is one of the most famous Viennese culinary specialties.
The cake consists of a dense chocolate cake with a thin layer of apricot jam on top, coated in dark chocolate icing on the top and sides. It is traditionally served with unsweetened whipped cream.
I always make it with our home made apricot jam and season sponge with a few drops of rum:) On the top I just added some pomegranate seeds for decoration.
– 3 eggs
– 150 g sugar
– 150 g butter
– 150 g flour
– 150 g chocolate
– baking powder
Some rum and the best home made apricot marmalade for filling.
Bon appétit !
